Effective Jan. 1, 2012 Texas state law requires incoming students under age 30 to receive a bacterial meningitis vaccination or meet requirements for declining the vaccine before registering for courses.
As a convenience to incoming students, UHD will begin offering the vaccination through UHD’s Student Health Services. The vaccination will be administered during the following schedule:
- 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 21 – 22,
- 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, Jan. 2 – 16, 2012
Students who elect to receive the vaccination through UHD Student Health Services can attach the vaccination fee to their tuition/fee bill instead of making payment at the time of vaccination. As part of the tuition/fee bill, the vaccination fee may be covered by eligible students who have financial aid awards or payment plans established. The vaccination is offered at a discounted rate of $115 through UHD Student Health Services.
For additional information on the vaccine, visit the UHD vaccination website (www.uhd.edu/meningitis) or contact the UHD Office of Admissions at 713-221-8522 or the UHD Student Health Services 713-221-8137.

Why did the price of the vaccine go up so fast?
Posted by Susanne | December 20, 2011, 2:06 pmIs there a type-o on the price of the vaccine? While this page says the vaccine is $115, the page at http://www.uhd.edu/meningitis/ says the vaccine costs $15.
Posted by Heather | December 20, 2011, 6:59 pmHeather, thanks for the comment! Several clinics in the Houston area are offering the vaccination for $15. Unfortunately, because of the increase in demand, those clinics are quickly running out of vaccinations. The “normal” price for the shot is $150 at other providers, but UHD is offering is at a discount of $115. For many students, the amount can be added to their fee bills. Thanks!
